Anti-Static Car Park Solutions

A common problem within the Car Park industry is users receiving electric shocks from ticket machines/barriers at the entrance to a facility.

Vehicles travelling along a road surface generate an electro static charge that can build up to a high voltage on the vehicle. At the same time this tends to dissipate to the ground through the vehicle tires and ground surface.

Charge generation stops when the vehicle comes to a standstill, usually the accumulated charge drains away before it can cause shocks to the driver of the vehicle.

If the electrical resistance of the substrate within the car park is too high this can cause the driver to receive an electric shock when making contact with the ticket machine.

By installing one of our conductive static dispersement pads (CSD Pads) this problem can be resolved with minimal downtime to your day to day car park operations.

Our CSD Pads are installed on the ground just prior to the ticket collection machine. As each vehicle passes over the CSD Pad, static charge is drawn from the vehicle down through the CSD Pad and dispersed to earth. As a result, the charge of static electricity is released before the driver reaches ticket machine/barrier where release runs through the driver creating a static electric shock.

The CSD Pads have been developed using similar methods that have been used for many years within the industrial flooring market, for sensitive areas such as electronic manufacturing to alleviate the potential for electro static charge.

The CSD Pads are installed over a 15m2 area just prior to the ticket collection machine to avoid any interference with the ticket collection machines ground wiring looms. They are constructed from a copper earthing grid that is connected to a solid release point, this is then overlaid with a metal silicon carbide wearing screed and sealed within a durable resin surface.

The entire pad is fully bonded to the substrate and provides a total thickness of 5mm. The surface provides a textured anti-slip finish and has the same appearance to many protective car park resin surfacing systems.

We recommend that one CSD pad is installed per ticket collection point.
